John Raymond, creator of the Jazz Trumpet Routine, is a Grammy-nominated jazz trumpeter as well as Professor of Jazz Studies at the prestigious Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University.

With a singular voice as a trumpeter, flugelhornist, and composer, Raymond is “steering jazz in the right direction” (Downbeat Magazine). He has released nine albums under his own name, and has received praise from the New York Times, Downbeat, Stereogum, NPR, and more. John has been a sideman or featured artist on over thirty other recordings, including four GRAMMY-nominated albums, and has performed or recorded with a diverse array of artists including legendary jazz drummer Billy Hart, pop sensation Sara Bareilles, Stellar-award winning gospel producer Darnell Davis, and singer/songwriter S. Carey (of Bon Iver) among others.

John is a sought-after educator, both as a professor at the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University and as a guest clinician and soloist at schools around the world. He is the author of “The Jazz Trumpet Routine: Fundamentals for the Creative Improviser,” which has sold almost 1,000 copies since its release in 2020. John is the creator and host of the podcast “The Trumpet Summit" where he talks shop with some of the greatest jazz trumpet players in the world including Tom Harrell, Ingrid Jensen, Sean Jones, the Snarky Puppy Trumpets, and more. In addition, John has performed and given presentations at the International Trumpet Guild conference and the Jazz Education Network conference, and has published articles in ITG, Downbeat Magazine, and JazzED Magazine.

John is a Bach Brass artist, LOTUS Trumpets mouthpiece artist, Adams Flugelhorn artist, and a Torpedo Bags artist.
